The Voltage Generates Electricity in Vermont

After seventeen successful seasons playing in the top minor league in the country, the Vermont Voltage are well established as one of the most stable and successful soccer franchises in the United States. After winning ten prestigious awards from the United Soccer Leagues Organization over the last twelve years, the Voltage are looked upon by the rest of the 67 teams in the league nationwide as the standard by which all teams are judged and compared. The well-established success story of the Voltage is documented by local media, local fan support, and the thousands of youngsters that have attended Voltage Soccer Camps over the last twelve years.

The reasons for the Voltage’s achievements are clear. First, the Voltage have achieved unparalleled success on the field. After acquiring the team, owner-coach- player Bojan “Bo” Vuckovic guided the Voltage to an 11-6-2 campaign in 2000 and the team’s first playoff appearance. The Voltage finished the 2003 season with the best record in team history at 22-5-4 and for the second time won the title of the PDL’s highly competitive Northeast Division. Furthermore, the Voltage and the organization’s dedicated business partners and volunteers have created a family-centered carnival atmosphere at home games. Fans are routinely treated to sponsoring business nights where fans receive sponsors’ products or promotional items upon entry. Players throw caps and t-shirts into the stands before each game. Volunteer’s staff concession and Voltage merchandise booths. A D.J. fires up the crowd by pumping music into the stands.

Fans enjoy halftime activities, such as the team’s dance troupe “Sparkettes” and a sponsor-promoted “Score a Goal, Win a Car.” Players who score goals toss soccer balls into the bleachers. Sparky, the team’s canine mascot, entertains both children and adults. Players sign autographs and talk with fans of all ages after each contest. Moreover, fan support for the Voltage has soared. Average attendance has climbed from 450 fans per game in 2000 to nearly 1,750 fans per game in 2006, a 389 percent increase in fans per game. A record crowd of 2,750 turned out to watch the Voltage host the PDL’s Eastern Conference championship. In fact, Voltage games have developed into one of Vermont’s top summer attractions, as season attendance for 2006 almost reached 30,000. This was the reason why the Voltage was chosen to be 2005 Franklin County Business of the Year.

Equally important, the Voltage are actively involved in community affairs and youth development. The Voltage have formed a strong alliance with the State of Vermont and its Tobacco Free Vermont program, as well as the Click It or Ticket program. Bo Vuckovic and other players regularly attend Vermont schools and talk with kids about the dangers of tobacco use and the benefits of being tobacco free. Being a part of Click It or Ticket campaign has been a major part of the Voltage team, so players and staff are constantly reminding the community of importance in traffic safety. In addition, the Voltage have supported many charitable groups such as Make a Wish Foundation, United Way, Success by Six.

The Voltage’s Professional Soccer Academy, which will expand to over 50 Vermont and New York locations in 2011, teaches kids not only the fundamentals of soccer but also the value of self-respect and sportsmanship. The Voltage invite your business to play a vital role in the team’s electrifying success. As with all successful organizations, the Voltage are always looking to the future. With that in mind, the team has brought the Supercharged Lady Voltage to the soccer experience in Vermont. The women play in the VASL league, the highest amateur competition in the state of Vermont. The VASL league gathers the top recreational soccer players around the state and the games are played on the Tree-Farm complex in Essex, VT.

The Voltage invite your business to play a vital role in the team’s electrifying success. As Bo Vuckovic declares, “I really must thank all of the businesses who support us. As much as we work hard to make sure we represent St. Albans community and Vermont well, those businesses help very much to make it all happen and I’m thankful for all of their support. If businesses didn’t support the Voltage we would not be here.”
